Yes Lalluji is a successful Railway minister but, apart from that, in general, hardly ever people find anything to praise about a Bihar politician.... But this time Bihar's political VIPs must be congratulated for their concerted effort to get away from those so-called luxury cars and stick to promoting the use of our good old faithful ambassadors that symbolizes the street-life of our nation.
Bihar has 28 ministers including the chief minister Nitish Kumar. In 2006, in order to give the government a “fresh new look” (probably by getting influenced by the numerous fashion shows and things alike that our tv channels continuously shower upon our cities and town and villages glorifying words like 'fashion', 'style' and 'luxury'), the government had purchased 56 luxury cars spending a total of Rs 3 crore -- about 5.4 lakh each.
But right from the beginning, chief minister Nitish Kumar and deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi continued on travelling mostly in Ambassadors, but, for the sake of that 'fresh new look', kept those luxury cars running as a part of their cavalcades!
...And now, after a year of those seemingly luxurious rides, all ministers are now complaining about these cars of high-maintenance requirements. Water resources minister Ramashray Prasad Singh even gave a written complaint about his “troublesome” four-wheeler with the “lack” of leg space and overall “discomfort”.
Other complaints surfaced too: While Ambassadors have its oil chamber and bumper well above roads, those new 'luxury' cars place it much lower making it vulnerable because of the uneven Bihar roads.
According to latest reports, top officials completely failed to dissuade the senior ministers from demanding the “sturdy Ambassadors” back and are thus going to order for 100 more Ambassador cars sooner or later for the honorable ministers and other officials. The luxury cars, now used by a smaller number of ministers, would be given to other offices once the new fleet of faithful Ambassadors arrive in Bihar Capital in a few months' time.
In these days ... when rich and powerful indians are vying with each other to grab and possess more and more fancy stuff without thinking about their true worth and usefulness, we must congratulate Bihar Government ministers for deciding to return to the old faithful fleet of ambassadors who know each of the turns and corners and surfaces of our roadways.
